Yesterday was my first day with Mash Mob, a multimedia communications company in Belfast, where I’ll be working with Ryan Beatty. They do a lot of work in video production and branding as well as 3D and 2D animation, which means I’ll hopefully be able to gain a lot of experience in new areas!
The first project I’ve been assigned is a 2.5D animation in After Effects as a teaser trailer for the comic ‘Off Girl.’ Mash Mob have already done a few of these (you can see them on Off Girl’s Twitter) and they definitely made me interested in reading the comics so that I could understand the context behind them.
The first step in the process of creating an animation from a comic panel is taking it in to Illustrator to separate out the elements that you want to animate. This is a pretty enjoyable process once you get used to it, but it is really time consuming!
